About MCF
Modern Coach Factory (MCF), set up by Indian Railways in 2007 at Lalganj, Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, is one of India’s most advanced passenger coach manufacturing units. Built at a cost of ₹3,192 crore with an annual capacity of 1,000 coaches, MCF is located just 3 km from Lalganj on the Kanpur–Raebareli Road (85 km from Lucknow).
The first fully in-house coach rolled out in August 2014. Since then, production has soared from 140 coaches in 2014–15 to a record 2,025 coaches in 2024–25, the highest in MCF’s history. Alongside stainless steel LHB coaches, MCF produces modern train sets, MEMU coaches, and even exported coaches to Mozambique Railways, marking its global reach.
MCF holds prestigious certifications, including IRIS, Platinum GreenCo (CII), NABL, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 3834-2, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and 5S Workplace Excellence.
A major milestone came on 1 April 2024 with the acquisition of the 27-acre Forged Wheel Plant, boosting India’s self-reliance with a capacity of 80,000 wheels annually.
Sustainability is at MCF’s core — a 4.08 MW solar plant, millions of trees planted, three sewage treatment plants, garbage recycling, and extensive rainwater harvesting (29 systems, 12 ponds, 10 borewells) help conserve up to 631 million litres of water annually.
With cutting-edge technology, global standards, and a commitment to eco-friendly innovation, MCF is shaping the future of Indian Railways.
